The Netball Academy is led by Miss Lauren Rudrum. Students participating in this programme receive coaching from a Development Accredited Coach to learn both theory and practical elements of Netball.
Aims of the programme
- To develop a high-quality programme that contributes to the PCACS reputation
- To support the School's vision of offering a specialist programme to increase PCACS performance quality at Interschool level
- To encourage students to participate and give back to grassroots sport and higher through playing, umpiring, and coaching
- To create opportunities for students to become well-rounded netballers including playing at a high level, coaching, umpiring and develop essential skills
- To promote the personal development of students and help them become better at participating in high level sport.
Learning Programme
Year 7 and 8
Students will develop fundamental offence, defense and transition skills. They will understand essential team play-tactics and decision-making, and in turn begin developing fitness to enhance their participation and provide the foundation for their ongoing development. Course components include injury awareness and prevention knowledge (introduction to the Knee programme). In addition, opportunities for Umpiring skill development are provided.
Year 9 and 10
In Year 9 and 10, students will continue to develop advanced tactical and technical skills at a higher speed. The requirements of effective coaching in netball are also introduced through the 7 STEP Programme.
Course components include fitness and strength training, sports nutrition, and training in professional conduct on and off the court. In addition, opportunities to receive the Umpiring Foundational Accreditation and C Badge along with undertaking a Foundational Coaching course are provided.
