We have had a strong start at Calista. Beginning a new school year comes with many emotions and we have focused on building a strong sense of belonging both within the classroom and towards our growing community. Cultivating this has been a delicate balance of developing the student's sense of self, as well as a sense of the collective to which we belong. Spending time together, making positive memories and communicating our thoughts has helped us to be shaped by the supportive community that surrounds us.
It is wonderful to hear the echoes of laughter down corridors and witness the invitations of the students asking each other “Do you want to come play?” Secure attachments are essential to a developing sense of connectedness and this was on display at our recent Chapel, where after a week at school, the entire community came together to begin the year with an intentional focus on our Strength of Heart. This was led by the Year One students who eagerly anticipated their turn at standing on stage, speaking to our community and displaying their leadership skills.
Our strong sense of community has meant our families have been an integral part of this process by supporting transitions for our littlest learners or helping the students become prepared for new routines. On Wednesday, we shared our approach at Parent Night with the community. Seeing so many families spend time listening to our educators, helped us to develop shared understandings.
For our new and existing families, welcome to Calista, we are so glad you are here and cannot wait to journey through your child’s education together.
