Over the past few weeks our Junior School has been buzzing with excitement as we prepared for our annual Athletics Carnivals.
The Kindergarten carnival, held at the Calista Campus, kicked things off on Tuesday 27 August. There were a lot of excited and proud families watching their children participate in a 50m running race and tabloid games. On Friday 30 August the Wellard and Calista Campus Junior School united for the Pre Primary to Year 6 carnival held at the Wellard Oval. The day was filled jumping, throwing, running and team activities that saw many students awarded with place ribbons for their efforts. The carnival for Years 2 to 6 students continued into Monday where these students cheered loudly as their team mates competed in sprints, team games and relays. All three carnivals were a success, showcasing the incredible talent, enthusiasm and sportsmanship of our young athletes.
Our students and their desire to reach new personal bests was evident, with many standout performances that will be remembered for years to come. The addition of 'Over the River' was popular amongst the students and spectators and saw many students jump further than they ever have before. Meanwhile, the Year 6 girls have always been a very competitive cohort and this year was no exception, with many events decided by the smallest of margins such as the 100m sprint which was decided by 0.01 of a second.
The grand relay was another new addition to the carnival. This race saw the fastest boy and girl from all the year groups compete to earn bragging rights as the fastest House for the year. Congratulations to Lindbeck House who were the winners of the grand relay; set up for success by the dominance of their Year 2 and 3 runners.
I would like to congratulate Moody House on being this year’s winner, proudly led by Year 6 Moody Sport Captain, Maisy Weston. I would also like to congratulate the following students for earning champion and runner up medals.

Beyond the impressive athletic feats, the essence of the carnival was in the spirit displayed. Students cheered each other on, offered words of encouragement, and celebrated each other's successes. The true champions of the day were those who demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, showing that athletics is as much about character as it is about competition.
A special thank you goes to all the Senior School student helpers, teachers, and staff who worked tirelessly to make the carnival days run smoothly. Their dedication made the carnival a memorable experience for all. I would also like to thank the P&F for the donation of the new House tents which looked fantastic and added another layer of House spirit.
